George II, Silver Proof Shilling, 1746
Old laureate and draped bust. R. Plain angles. Practically as struck.
Category: Milled shillings
S. 3704 ESC 1208
Description: Rare. Attractive tone, near fleur-de-coin. A superb example, this is as good as the gem that sold in the April 2012 World and Ancient Coin Auctions for $5000.00 plus fees, in our opinon. A similar coin sold in the 2010 DNW auction for $5,600 plus fees.
With only one hundred believed to have been produced, these proof shillings continue to be sought after.
J.S. Tanner's design is evocative of the period and this example has significant eye appeal.
